Scots The Musical Scottish tour announced
Returning following its sell out Edinburgh Fringe success and ecstatic reviews, this “truly incredible” (Broadway World) show, is a hilarious, quirky musical squeezing the history of Scotland into a fun-filled hour and a half.
Created by multi-award winning duo Noisemaker and featuring a fantastic live band, this fast-paced production charges through milestones in Scotland’s past, present and future, its people and places, triumphs and failures.
All of this told by a figure who has seen it all... someone who witnessed the Picts and the Celts unite; who survived the battles of Stirling and Bannockburn; who heard the declaration of Arbroath; who witnessed Scottish Enlightenment, the Industrial Revolution, the charge for women’s rights, the battle for gay rights, the call for Independence - basically someone who’s seen some amount of s**t- Scotland’s greatest invention ... The toilet!
The multi-skilled ensemble re-tell some of our nation's most iconic (and some forgotten) stories, all to answer the fundamental question: What makes a country?
Supported by Creative Scotland.
Scott Gilmour and Claire McKenzie, writers, said:
“SCOTS follows the dramatic, the democratic, and downright ludicrous shifts a country can undergo from its inception to become what it is today. From the joining of Gaelic and Pictish kingdoms to the invention of the toaster - SCOTS wanders the winding path of witnessing the birth of workers rights; becoming the first nation in the UK to legalise gay marriage; the first country in the world to offer free sanitary products to all - continually asking the question: "what makes a country?”
“Underneath its slightly mad, irreverent and deeply silly surface, SCOTS is a love letter to home and we can’t wait to share it with audiences across the country to celebrate the unlikely story of our wee nation.”
Director Jemima Levick said:
“So far, we’ve performed SCOTS in Glasgow, Edinburgh and New York, so I’m beyond excited to take it on the road. It really struck a chord in all three cities, which is one of the reasons it feels important to re-stage SCOTS again now, and this time on a grander scale and for audiences right across Scotland. It’s always been about a celebration of a nation.
“It’s silly and it’s irreverent, it’s funny, it’s touched a lot of hearts, and people often learn something they never knew. What’s important to me is that everyone will have a night of laughter and tears and the best night out.”
