Cast news: Joe McElderry to star as Pharaoh in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat at Glasgow King's Theatre in 2025

Lead casting has been announced for the UK tour of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat for when it visits Glasgow this summer.

X-Factor winner Joe McElderry to star as Pharaoh in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat at the King's Theatre, Glasgow 30 July - 3 August 2025

The King’s Theatre, Glasgow is delighted to announce that X Factor winner Joe McElderry is set to perform as Pharaoh at the venue in the upcoming Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat tour. Joe previously performed as Joseph in Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s iconic musical during an extensive 2017 / 2018 UK tour.

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat is currently playing at the Edinburgh Playhouse for the Christmas season starring Donny Osmond as Pharaoh. Who is Joe McElderry?

Joe McElderry burst onto the scene in 2009 as the winner of The X Factor. The South Shields-born singer quickly stormed into the UK charts with his debut album, before discovering a new sound during his winning stint on ITV show Popstar to Operastar in 2011.

Not content with just two reality contest wins to his name, Joe braved sub-zero temperatures to claim victory on the first series of Channel 4’s The Jump in 2014.

Joe’s been a regular on the stage too, receiving rave reviews for his portrayals of the titular roles in The Who’s rock opera Tommy and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, as well as a leading role in Club Tropicana: The Musical.

Following a number of successful tours, Joe paid homage to the late, great George Michael in 2022 with his Freedom tour. He’d been lucky enough to perform with the iconic singer during his time on The X Factor.

Joe returned to his own concerts last year and then to end 2024 he is starring in the prestigious Newcastle Theatre Royal pantomime – The Little Mermaid.
