Unfortunate is the story of Disney villain, Octo-woman and plus-size icon, Ursula. This parody of A Little Mermaid by Fat Rascal Theatre Company, tells audiences the other side of the story for the first time ever.
This production has an astonishingly talented cast who each play multiple characters. They must have a gazillion costume changes each. It's so impressive! I did not expect the puppetry! The voices! The live band! In a Fringe production. Totally fab.
"The legendary queer queen is ready to spill, in this tell-all tale of sex, sorcery and suckers. It’s gonna get wet."
Each of the ensemble cast were incredible. Ursula herself, Elliotte N'Dure, has a voice worthy of any diva / queen / sea witchy octopod! She's wonderful.
The take on Ariel by Miracle Chance was a surprise - but worked brilliantly. And 'that song' by Ariel made perfect sense!! (IYKYK). My face still hurts from smiling.
There are great songs throughout the show but the stand-out is 'How Unfortunate'. It's an absolute banger.
This whole story-line actually made much more sense than The Little Mermaid!
The puppets by Abby Clarke are wonderful. But be warned; puppets there may be, but this show is not for kids!
I bought tickets for Unfortunate in Edinburgh so that I could save myself money and NOT travel to Newcastle or Manchester to see the full show later in the year... But now that I've seen the 'festival version' I think I really do need to see the full show. RIP my bank balance.
